You go to them. We’ll go with you.

How Embassy supports volunteers:

Training. All new volunteers walk through our simple onboarding process, including an at-your-own-pace training course in connecting with Muslims. Learn the common questions your Muslim friends will ask, and why those questions are significant. Become comfortable engaging in conversations about Christ!

Making Connections. Embassy helps volunteers find digital platforms used by Muslims. We’re also happy to pair you with a Muslim who has expressed interest in reading the Bible.

Ongoing Support. After you get started, Embassy provides access to a private community of like-minded Christ followers. There, you’ll have access to ongoing opportunities for prayer, encouragement, training, and other resources.

FAQs

  • At Embassy, we’ll help you step into the proverbial crowd and teach you how to start conversations with strangers.

Embassy is currently focusing on three avenues of outreach, but we're able to offer additional recommendations based on request. You can connect with Muslims in closed nations who:

    • Want to practice conversational English (but who don't need a teacher)

    • Are using online platforms to discuss truth

    • Are interested in reading and discussing the Bible with a follower of Jesus

Volunteers use one or more of these platforms to make a new friend, and then continue the conversation via audio, video, or text. For security reasons, specific details are provided to volunteers only.

  • Embassy volunteers dedicate at least 45 minutes per week to meet and continue ongoing conversations with Muslim friends in closed nations. That time does not all need to be at once; it can be broken up and spread throughout the week if desired. We ask volunteers to commit to a six-month term at minimum.

  • Volunteers are trained through Crescent Project. The training is available online and can be viewed individually or in a group setting. In total, the training videos take three hours to view. Online training costs $17 to complete. All funds help to extend the reach of Crescent Project so that more can hear.

In the online training, you’ll learn what Muslims believe and how to respond to common questions they’ll ask. We also provide training on best security practices as well as how to navigate the technology (such as websites and apps) that you’ll be using to connect with Muslims.

  • Making connections as an Embassy volunteer can happen in any number of ways. Our team has an initiative in which we make connections for you with Muslims who have agreed to read and discuss the Bible as a way of practicing English. We also want to train you to go out into the digital neighborhoods of the Internet and make connections for yourself. More than anything, we want to help you make connections based on who you are and how God has gifted you.

Some volunteers make lasting and deep friendships almost immediately; others reach out for months, sowing broadly. There’s no script, no predictions, and no guarantees. There’s only this: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as if God were making his appeal through us…” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

We’ll show you where you can go. We’ll provide training and support as you serve. But ultimately, this is God's mission. Take a step of faith, go out to the highways and hedges, and see what he will do.

  • Yes. There are many ways to reach specific people groups online, and we can help you do that. In many cases, it takes no more than a few minutes to start a conversation with someone from a specific ethnic group, language, or even city that is on your heart.

  • No, this is not an ESL ministry. Embassy volunteers connect online with Muslims abroad who already speak some level of English.

There is no lesson planning involved, only conversation. For early conversations, a list of recommended conversational prompts and topics is available to volunteers. For those participating in the Bible English track, a list of lessons and training in how to use them is also available.

  • It’s always okay to tell your Muslim friend that you aren’t sure what to say in the moment. Pause, contact an Embassy staff member, and let us help you navigate moments that feel confusing.

  • Yes. Online security procedures are in place to protect the privacy of individuals involved, with an emphasis on maintaining the safety of Muslims and new believers living in closed nations.
